It’s true: on the first use, cardboard generates less CO₂ than a corrugated PP sheet during manufacturing. Plastic takes more energy to produce.
But cardboard lasts a single cycle. In humid conditions, sometimes less. The sheet lasts up to 40 uses.
And from the very first use, before reuse even counts, corrugated plastic already wins in three critical categories:
Bleaching cardboard cellulose releases chemicals into rivers and coastlines that corrugated PP does not generate.
Compounds from the cardboard process end up in lakes and rivers. Corrugated PP never goes through that process.
Cardboard manufacturing releases gases that degrade the ozone layer at levels PP never reaches.
